But is thread count the real measure of luxury bedding?

Thread count is only one factor in the equation of luxury bedding. The qualities of the fabric are what put the luxury in your sheets. There are, however, two main types of fabrics and they are natural and manufactured. Luxury bedding is almost exclusively made from high-quality natural fabrics such as Egyptian cotton.

Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric. A higher count usually indicates a finer thread. It is the finer thread that gives a sheet its softer feel, unless chemical finishers are used. These chemical finishes, which are often used on cheaper sheets, will make the sheets initially appear to be silky smooth, but after a couple washings the finish will wear off. Chemical finishes are also detrimental to those who have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies. In reality thread count is mostly a measure of a sheets softness and not necessarily its quality. For example a 340 thread count sheet made with Egyptian cotton can feel as smooth as a 400 thread count sheet made with cheaper cotton. Does this mean that a low grade cotton sheet with 800 TC fabric feels twice as smooth as 400?

Not necessarily. If you have been shopping for luxury bedding you may have seen advertisements for 800 + TC sheets. This number can be misleading. These sheets achieve a super high thread count by adding multiple plies of fabric together. While these sheets are smooth, they are not as proportionally smooth as the high number would lead one to believe. The added plies increase the durability of the sheet which may be necessary if the bedding is made from low quality materials. High quality fabrics will be made with high quality fibers which are strong and tightly weaved. The best fabrics are generally going to have a thread count between 300 and 350.

Natural materials, such as Egyptian or Pima cotton, are preferred over manufactured materials for bedding. This is because cotton will allow the body to breathe while at rest. But if one prefers a silk-like feel then Lyocell is a good alternative. It is a manufactured material that is made from natural biodegradable materials.

So remember, when shopping for high quality sheets keep in mind that thread count is more an indicator of the smoothness of a sheet and not as much an indicator of quality. If a bedding set claims to have a high thread count check to see if it is made of a high quality fabric. One should seriously consider an investment in quality bedding materials such as Egyptian cotton for longevity, comfort, and especially if you have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies.

Kelly White is cofounder of Home Delights. Did you ever have to tie up the mattress with rope to keep it from sliding? Do the words like hard, heavy, and lumpy come to mind?

Unlike conventional futons that loose their shape over time, Istikbal sofa beds look and feel more like standard couches and offer comfort and convenience. The mattress is built in. It is part of the sofa bed. Not only can you sleep and sit on these sofa beds, but you can also store pillows and sheets in them.

With one sofa bed you get three benefits: sitting, storing, and sleeping. Istikbal sofa beds only require one click to convert from a sofa to a sleeper and they have a built-in storage where blankets, sheets, and pillows can be stored. Unique color schemes, and extreme functionality make sofa beds from Istikbal an excellent choice.

The Istikbal sofa beds can be found at http://www.furnitureoutletwarehouse.com

mattress - mattress and bed - your #1 resource for mattresses, beds and bedding

Ease Aches and Pain While you Sleep by Switching to a Foam Memory Mattress

This article courtesy of http://www.mattressandbed.com

The memory foam pillow is quickly becoming the number one choice amongst pillow buyers today. Synthetic and down pillows are still a good choice depending on who will be using them, but the memory foam contains unique properties that no other pillows can match. Memory foam pillows are ideal for those who may have head or neck pain, as the characteristics of the foam will allow for the relief of painful pressure points.

Memory foam has made its way into the forefront ever since it was discovered that the foam molds to the shape of your body using your body's own heat. The memory foam remains firm when not in use, but when you lay your head upon the pillow, the memory foam gently caresses your head and neck as it warms up. This provides an ideal sleeping surface and the proper support needed for your head, neck, and shoulders.

With a memory foam cervical pillow, your head and neck remain aligned with your spine as you sleep. The pressures you often feel will be reduced when using the memory foam, which means less tossing and turning for you. It has also been discovered that when your breathing passage is properly aligned by using your memory foam bed pillow, snoring problems are reduced. You may want to get yourself a memory foam mattress topper as well. This will provide your spine with the support it needs to stay in proper alignment with the rest of your body. The combination of the foam pillow and the foam mattress topper may have you never wanting to get out of bed either! Another wonderful thing about memory foam cervical pillows is that they are naturally hypo-allergenic. This is great news for the many allergy sufferers out there!

If your sleep is being disrupted because of a flat pillow, a hard pillow, or too fluffy a pillow, maybe it's time you tried a memory foam cervical bed pillow. They are only approximately $50.00 and can provide you with a good nights sleep every night. Take a look online for your memory foam cervical pillow as the prices are probably better than what you would find in a store. Keep in mind, however, that the benefits of sleeping on memory foam will far outweigh whatever price that you will pay for it!!

MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS PAD:

A memory foam mattress pad is an inexpensive way to improve the sleeping surface of your bed. Memory foam is designed so that it adjusts to your body's temperature and weight giving you the support needed for a restful nights sleep. Many people are now buying memory foam mattress pads to take advantage of the many health benefits they have to offer, and the price is right, as you don't have to go out and buy an entire new mattress set to reap those benefits.

Visco-elastic memory foam was discovered in the 1960's by NASA using their latest space age technology. The memory foam was first used as a cushion for astronauts at take-off and re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. It was so successful that it started to be used to make critically ill individuals more comfortable. The memory foam visco-elastic mattress pad is able to provide you with an extra couple of inches of luxurious and beneficial comfort, which is great if you have a really hard mattress with no give or are experiencing back problems. There is no need to go out and spend hundreds of dollars for a more comfortable mattress set, when all you need is a foam mattress pad.

Memory foam pads don't cost very much when compared to the cost of an actual mattress set, but with the comfort they provide, you'll feel like you're sleeping on a cloud. A memory foam pad is unlike any other mattress pad in that many health benefits come with it. The moment you lay down on your memory foam mattress topper, your body temperature will heat up the memory foam cells causing the foam to distribute your body's weight evenly over the entire mattress pad. This in turn will relieve any uncomfortable pressure points while allowing your spine to remain in an orthopedically correct position. Some people have even said they feel like they are floating on air.

If you are having trouble sleeping at night, then maybe a memory foam pad for your mattress is exactly what you need. Take a look online for some great deals as they are usually less expensive than what you will find in a store.

Chris Rodriguez is the author and webmaster for http://www.duvetcovers-n-more.com

Her site offers valuable information on what to look for when shopping for bedding, and where to find quality bed linens and window treatments at affordable prices. Traditional mattress designs are more rigid and can force certain points of the body in contact with the mattress to absorb the entire weight of the body, creating concentrated pressure points that are uncomfortable and often out of natural alignment. Air beds have the ability to mold and shape to the contour of a sleeping body and were originally designed for hospitals and medical environments where higher levels of back support and reduced pressure points on the body were needed. Now this technology can be invited into your own bedroom to create a more comfortable sleeping environment.

An air bed is basically a mattress that contains air bladders instead of hard steel springs. Air beds can often also be adjusted to suit the particular support needs of partners that share a bed, as each side usually has individual air bladder controls that can be adjusted. The adjustable dual air support chambers can provide just the right amount of back support and firmness on one side of a bed without disturbing the other side. Sleeping on an air bed can also provide better spinal alignment through the night, giving you a very comfortable and restful sleep.

Several air beds are endorsed by the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations as good for people with back backs and back support problems. In addition, air beds can help people with allergies by reducing the available nesting ground for dust mites. The traditional coil mattress is usually the largest breeding and nesting ground of dust mites in a household and can contain as many as 5 million dust mites feeding on skin particles that have filtered into the inner mattress core. With an air bed mattress system you do not have this problem, which can help improve your breathing while asleep.

If youd like to learn more benefits of air beds and what to watch out for, visit:http://www.loft-beds-bunk-beds.com/air-beds.htm

About the Author

About the Author

S.A. Looking in wonder and awe Inspired by curiosity, dreamers would build and invent new and better ways to sleep. Like the visionaries of NASAs space program that developed the first memory foam mattress. The point was to help the boldest of stargazers, to reach the heavens with a restful night's sleep.

NASA called upon all the inventors and innovators they could in the early 70s, and many things never before dreamed of, became reality. What would help these courageous souls overcome the frontiers of space and boldly go where know one had ever gone before? Imagination And from their imaginations came memory foam mattresses. For a long time it was thought that mattresses made from memory foam could do the trick But that was not the calling of this exquisite invention, but rather the realm of commercially bought and sold mattresses to consumers here on earth!

Not only have they revolutionized the earthlings way of sleeping, but they themselves have generated a whole new dimension of creativity. Things like, size, weight, density, design and dynamics are but a few of the qualities found in a memory foam mattress, but how have they been used? Memory foam was not used in the NASA program, true, but a lot of things werent, that just means that it found its way into more important fields.

Take the field of medicine, for example. In Sweden, a genius came up with this wonderful idea to use the memory foam mattress for patients with back pain problems. The idea was that since memory foam mattresses conform themselves to the sleepers body, without creating pressure point resistance, then they would work wonders on people with similarly related problems, such as pressure sores.

Over time, different kinds of memory foam were created and innovators launched at the opportunity to defend a new and revolutionary way of getting a truly good nights sleep. Memory foam mattresses were divided between technologies and then re-mantled among the various different mattress sciences Memory foam works best when layered over a hard surface at approximately 2 3 weighing around 4lbs.

But why the name, memory foam? The mattress does not have a memory per-say, but rather cells that deform when under load. Different from a spring back kind of mattress where all points of the mattress are always trying to find there way back to point zero resistance, memory foam actually deforms each cell, by smashing it and evacuating the air, dislodging it into other cells. This makes the foam more difficult to reach point zero again since the process of deforming literally creates a vacuum.

In this way, the bed will remain in the position the load has determined every time the slumbering individual has just awoken from a dream, moves position and goes back into the dream world. It really helps the sleeper get a more comfortable nights sleep and it induces more powerful dreams, since memory foam actually creates the support necessary for the determined load, without favoring any specific pressure point.

As its like a big sponge, the air forced out and throughout the surrounding cells, is forced back in when the load is removed, but over a slower period of time so that, once again no pressure point is favored over any other.

About the Author

About the author: Thomas Jay Wacker is the General Manager and V.P. of www.simplepedic.com. These are, of course, very important considerations, because if the bedding wont fit the bed you bought it for, it obviously wont be of much use. On the same note, if the child hates the cartoon character or colors of their blanket or sheets, they are much less likely to be willing to sleep with them. What many parents dont consider when purchasing kids bedding or baby bedding for a child are allergies that the child may have.

One thing most people may not even think about is the allergy to latex. While most of the time, there is no latex added into the fibers that are in almost all sheets, blankets, or pillows, it is important to know that many times elastic or elastic threads are often used, and can cause problems for those with a latex allergy. While it isnt very common that a pillow or blanket would have any elastic for any reason, do not forget that fitted sheets do use them around the corners to hold them tight to the mattress. Most of the time, there still wouldnt be any need for concern about this, because the elastic will be under the mattress, but this is one reason it is very important to buy sheets for the correct size mattress. It may be tempting to use a bigger sheet when necessary, or even try to stretch a smaller sheet to fit, but both of these could easily come undone after any tossing and turning, and could cause the elastic to end up on the bed, and up against the child.

Lycra is also made up partially of latex, so it is not a material that should be used by a person with a latex allergy. Usually there is no lycra in bedding products, but it is always best to find this out before purchasing. If you know that it is 100 percent cotton, though, it should be of no concern. Most manufacturers of lycra are moving away from latex because of new technology, but until they quit using it completely, it is good to be safe.

Another allergy concern in kids bedding for children is how the bedding affects allergies to dust mites and asthma. Dust mites are the microscopic creatures that often live in pillows and mattresses, and their covers. In fact, bedding is known as a sort of haven for them, and it is the place they are most commonly found because they feed off of hair particles and shedding skin. Some baby bedding is designed to reduce the exposure to dust mites and other allergens. Many times these are recommended by allergists to prevent the person from inhaling dust that carries dust mite droppings, because doing so can cause allergies and worsen asthma. There are dust-mite-proof covers that are recommended for sufferers of these types of allergies. While many studies have shown that people who used these covers actually suffered the same from these conditions as those who did not, it is likely that those were situations where the person was using that as the only method of prevention. When used in conjunction with other ways, it is very possible that they will help, and will definitely do no harm.

While studies have shown that using allergy-proof bedding alone doesnt decrease a persons allergies, the bedding itself actually has been proven to reduce a persons exposure to dust mites, which leads to the conclusion that they should be used, but they should be used in conjunction with other preventative measures.

Article by Avid Amiri - President of The Kids and Baby Bedding Company.

mattress - mattress and bed - your #1 resource for mattresses, beds and bedding

Shabby Chic Bedding Can Add an Elegant Vintage Touch to Your Bedroom

This article courtesy of http://www.mattressandbed.com

Shabby Chic bedding is definitely the answer if you are looking for style and comfort with a touch of softness in your bedroom. Shabby chic is a very simplistic yet stylish method of decor, using bedding, linens, and window treatments with a time worn elegance. Muted blues, pinks, greens, and all shades of white are very common with the Shabby look. Stripes, small florals (mostly roses), and checks make this 100% cotton bedding very appealing to the eye. That is why the Shabby Chic look has become so incredibly popular over the years.

You may be thinking that Shabby Chic bed linens are too delicate and untouchable to be used in your children's bedrooms, but think again. The Shabby Chic line of bedding was designed specifically with children and your busy lifestyle in mind. Designer Rachel Ashwell decided that her creations would have to be kid and dog friendly, so most of her Shabby bedding can just be thrown in the wash.

If you decide you want to decorate your entire bedroom around the Shabby chic look, you'll be happy to know that you can purchase Shabby chic fabrics to accent your bedroom with. Curtains, chair covers, decorative pillows, table runners, and lampshades are just a few accessories you can give your own look to by using the Shabby Chic fabrics. Shabby Chic furniture will also add a touch of class to your bedroom while complementing the ageless bedding.

A mixture of old and new give Shabby Chic bedrooms an inviting atmosphere, similar to the popular cottage look of days gone by. The Shabby look is less than perfect, but its comfort and character make the vintage look very chic. Shabby Chic designer bedding is a hot commodity, so be sure to always have an open mind and eye searching for Shabby Chic pieces.

There are some things to look for when on the hunt for Shabby chic items. Does the piece in question have a soft, comfortable character? Would it fit in with romantic, French Country, or Cottage decor? Are the colors aged to perfection? You want your items to be time worn but not worn out.

Shabby chic designer bedding is the perfect way to create a comfy, faded, airy look of sophistication while staying vintage all the way. With this great look, you'll never want to leave your bedroom!

Chris Rodriguez is the author/publisher for http://www.duvetcovers-n-more.com Visit her sight and discover a wealth of information on different kinds of bedding and other decorative linens. If your follow our 10 point safety checklist, bunk beds can still be a great bedding solution for your children:

Reputable manufacturer

Look for manufacturers that are established, and have a long history of manufacturing bunk beds. A good manufacturer will also stand behind their product by providing a lifetime warranty.

ASTM and CPSC guidelines

Ask the retailer if it meets the voluntary safety guidelines of the American Standards of Testing and Materials and the minimum safety standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. If it does, you'll know that the bed meets all current and reasonable safety standards.

Strong frame construction

Examine and test the durability and strength of the bunk bed frame. It should easily hold a parents weight - climb on it and wiggle the frame a bit. A good bunk bed with remain firmly grounded without movement or noise.

Only rounded edges

Check the entire bed construction for smoothness of materials and fasteners. There should be no sharp edges or protruding points anywhere in the construction.

Measure the safety rails

Safety rails should run on both sides of the top bunk, and the lower rail should be no higher than 3 1/2 inches above the top of the mattress height - any higher and your children could slip underneath it. Also make sure the top rail is at least 5 inches above the mattress top to prevent your child from rolling over the safety rails.

Ensure proper mattress fit

Strangulation deaths have occurred in the US when children fall through openings between the mattress and the frame during the night. Make sure the mattress opening snugly fits the mattress without a lot adjustment room. If the mattress has a gap greater than 3 inches from any side of the mattress to the bed frame, headboard or footboard - it does not fit properly.

Sturdy ladder construction

Make sure the ladder in well constructed and is firmly attached and bolted to the bed frame. Test it out with your own weight - if it moves around it is not safe.

Sturdy mattress support

A lot of injuries are caused by children in the lower bunks pushing up on the underside of the top bunk and dislodging the mattress or support frame. Ensure the top bunk has sturdy mattress supports that are secured to the bed frame with bolts or screws. You don't want a floating board support system, as these will move around and can possibly fall through the opening.

Repair and maintenance

Immediately replace or repair any loose or missing fasteners on the bed. Periodically check the tightness of fasteners holding the bed together, as well as the cross support rails holding the upper mattress.

Safe use

Teach your children not to push up on the underside of the bed, or to climb on it like a jungle gym. Proper safety is important at all times, and you may wish to also use a night light near the ladder so children can see the ladder steps in the dark.

If you follow these basic tips then you should get years of safe enjoyment out of your new bunk bed.

S.A. This law may become national within a year, and is under consideration by the Consumer Products Safety Commission. California residents can buy chemical-free organic mattresses with a letter or prescription from a doctor, which can be mailed or faxed to at time of purchase. Unfortunately, this legislation may eventually extend to organic bedding and organic clothing.

The primary chemicals required to meet state and federal flammability guidelines include Boric Acid (which effectively kills roaches), PBDE's, Formaldehyde, Decabromodiphenyl Oxide, Melamine, Zinc Borate, Vinylidiene Chloride, and Antimony Trioxide.

Up to 1 1/2 pounds of these deadly chemicals saturate just the surface of a larger size mattress!

It's not that legislators aren't aware of the toxicity and health risks of these chemicals. The law grudgingly nods to purchasing organic mattresses by prescription only. Imagine having to pay a doctors visit just to purchase organic bedding and clothing as well. For those with health insurance, an inconvenience. For those without health insurance, a potentially devastating and insurmountable health menace.

Your family spends 8 hours every day lying prone on mattresses, and will steadily inhale these toxins for years. This is being mandated by law regardless of scientific proof that these chemicals are highly carcinogenic, cause high prenatal mortality, birth defects, reduced fertility, plus liver, kidney, brain and heart damage. Americans with allergies, asthma and multiple chemical sensitivities, are keenly at risk. Infants are notoriously vulnerable to Boric Acid poisoning.

The authors of the legislation have good intentions, and expect to save 300 lives every year from mattress-ignited fires. Over 40 years, this law could harm more than 100 million people as a direct result of chemical saturation.

Organic bedding with wool fill and organic mattresses, naturally meet and exceed fire retardant standards in all cases, but will never contain a dram of toxic chemical inputs.

If this law becomes national, doctors will hopefully suffer an epidemic of writers cramp, and judging from their strenuous opposition to this legislation, will be more than happy to continue writing prescriptions for safe, healthy organic mattresses, and if necessary, organic bedding and clothing as well.

Susan Fullen-Yurek of Kushtush.com Organics, http://www.kushtush.com, is an online retailer of organic bedding and organic cotton products.

Kids Bedding for Boys and Girls

This article courtesy of http://www.mattressandbed.com

There are many different types of kids bedding that is gender neutral, from everything such as a color scheme to characters, to animal themes. At the same time, though, there are many that are very gender specific.

Girls have many different choices for what types of kids bedding they may want. A good theme for girls that can start at an early age is princesses, and girls will usually like this one for a long time. The same goes with flowers and pastel or pinks and purples.

Boys have the equivalent in sports themes and things like camouflage. In this area, it can be one specific sport, such as football, or a more generalized theme that involves all sports. This works well, because they may change their minds on their favorite sport within a matter of months, or even weeks, and feel very adamantly about their favorite sport. Colors tend to be darker and brighter most of the time in boys? rooms, so it is usually the same, or similar, when it comes to the kids bedding choices for them.

The many gender neutral types can be such things as cartoon themes, certain animals, etc. especially when they are younger, as in babies or toddlers, it can be a lot easier to find gender neutral themes as opposed to gender specific. One of the reasons for this is that small children tend to not care quite as much about colors being a certain way and care more about characters or animals, and these all tend to be the same. This is especially true with nurseries, because so many times a person doesn?t find out what the sex of the baby will be before it?s born, or they do, but the sonogram is wrong, or they are concerned with it possibly being wrong. Many parents tend to go with neutral bedding so that they won?t have to worry about this if it happens to them. Luckily, with babies, no one cares that a little boy?s room is done in light greens and yellows, but when they get older their friends might tend to make fun of them if this were still the case.

Girls have an option that boys don?t have as they get older, and this is to have a canopy bed, with the curtains hanging on the rods above. For a girl, this would seem like they have the bed of a princess, but for a boy, they would feel like they were a girl in a bed like this. There are daybeds, as well, which are typically not a boy?s favorite type of bed. There are many different types of toddler beds as well, such as racecar beds, and for girls there are princess beds and more. Toddler beds are always made slightly differently than regular beds, so you will want to make sure the kids bedding is specifically made for that type of bed, as well as pick bedding to match it.

There are bunk beds of many different types that a child may have, as well. This includes the kind with a twin bed on bottom, or it could be a full size, or even a futon. Each of these bed options leads to more options in bedding for them, because there are different types of sheets, and other bedding items that are specifically made for most types of bunk beds, so that they fit better than a regular sheet would.

So, there are many things about boy kids bedding that is similar to girl kids bedding, but there are also many differences, and these are always a good thing to keep in mind when purchasing bedding for a child.

Article by Avid Amiri - President of The Kids Bedding Company. The best fabric for the baby would be 100 percent cotton. Below are descriptions of the different types of nursery bedding for each type of furniture.

Crib Bedding: Until the baby is one or one and a half years old, the crib is its ideal bed. Cribs are of many different types, but they all need to be strong and durable. You could choose a standard crib, or go for a more expensive one such as a convertible or portable crib which would be ideal for traveling. It is best to always choose a crib from a reputable company.

Bassinet bedding: Bassinets are suitable for the baby for the first 3 or 4 months. A perfect bassinet will have a soft cuddly mattress, a small little pillow and a blanket. A bassinet should be made of soft material with preferably the color blending with the babys room.

Cradle bedding: Cradles have a lovely rocking motion which makes sure that the baby gets a sound sleep. Light colored cradles are preferred by parents because they look nice and you can notice when they get wet.

Baby blankets: Baby blankets should be of soft material and must be non toxic. Today there are many types of blankets to choose from that will be soft, smooth, and pleasant smelling with attractive and eye pleasing colors.

Bedding for the baby could be different for a boy or a girl. They could be gender neutral as well. The color combination and the cute looking cartoons are common to both the gender.

Normally for the girls, the baby bedding is replete with shades of pink, light blue and purples. A baby girls bed is laid out like a princess. A baby boys bed is sport oriented. You could see baby bedding for boys themed around superheroes, WWE personalities or baseball stars. The colors tend to be darker and bolder for boys.

As pointed out above, it is not a hard and fast rule for the baby bedding to be in a certain set of preferences for baby boys and girls. In fact you will see a lot of neutral nursery bedding themes with regard to cartoons like Disney or Popeye characters or cute animations.

The kids are too small to understand the difference about having gender specific cartoons and animals and they are attracted to anything which pleases their eyes and make them smile. It is just that when they get a little older, little boys would feel a little awkward having his bed done in pinks and pastels.

When baby girls grow older, their beds could have blinds with the curtains hanging on rods above. This gives the bed somewhat a princess bed kind of appearance. Not that the girls would be complaining!

Bedding is one interesting avenue where there are a lot of options in store for the parent from choosing the kind and texture of sheets, the choice of colors and baby bedding patterns.

While purchasing a baby bed it is up to you if you choose a gender neutral baby bed or something which would make her feel like a princess or make him feel like a superhero.

Copyright Randy Wilson, All Rights Reserved.

Randy is owner of http://www.planning-a-baby-shower.com where you will find further tips on baby showers at http://www.planning-a-baby-shower.com/planning-the-baby-shower.html and baby shower games at http://www.planning-a-baby-shower.com/Baby-Shower-Games.html.

Finding the best deals on bedding online.

This article courtesy of http://www.mattressandbed.com

Finding the best deals on bedding online.

Gone are the days when we had all the leisure time in the world to browse the stores in the mall for the best bargains. Shopping is not the leisurely pursuit it once was. And bargain shopping, by its very nature, is a stressful experience. Take bedding for example. Bedding, and linens, includes everything from sheets and pillowcases to bed skirts and duvet covers. In fact, it just means everything that is used on and around your bed. There are so many colors, fabrics, textures, designs and styles on the market that you tend to think you need to be inside a store to see it all, feel it all and compare it all before you feel comfortable enough to buy it.

Of course, this means that you'll have to go out and beat the crowds, be totally alert to where the discounts are and be prepared to walk and walk while you go from store to store to compare the best prices.

But if you know your product you can shop comfortably online. Make yourself a cup of coffee, log onto the Internet and open up your favorite search engine. Type in a keyword phrase that describes the type of product you are looking for. Is it for your baby? Type in Baby bedding, Toddler bedding or Crib bedding. Is it a brand name you are after? Type in Ralph Lauren bedding or Tommy Hilfiger bedding. Maybe you are after Harry Potter bedding? Whatever you are after you'll bring up many suitable websites for you to start browsing. If you are after the best deals around, add keywords to your search, such as "best deals" or "discount".

It is truly astounding that there is so much choice available at the best prices right at your fingertips. But do keep your cool. Make sure you read the product descriptions carefully before deciding which bedding is right for you. Most linen and bedding products are made from cotton or a mix of cotton and polyester. The cotton and polyester mixes tend to be the cheapest. They can also be the most practical, since the polyester makes for easier ironing. These days, though, cotton is being manufactured in an "easy care" variety which also allows it be ironed with more ease. Egyptian cotton and Pima (common in the US) cotton are the ultimate in luxury bedding fabrics. While that means that they'll be more expensive, you get much softer sheets and pillow cases, which make for a cosier sleep. Do note the thread count. The higher the thread count the softer the cotton. Sateen cotton, for example, has a high tread count and is silky and smooth.

Bargains can be had regardless of the product chosen. Even when you are not looking to buy, it pays to do a random web search for the products you like. Sign up to stores of your product choice so that you may be informed of special offers. If you are worried about spam, just set yourself up with a free web-based shopping email account. Use that email address to sign up to shopping sites, newsletters and advertising material.

About the Author

Dean Erickson. In this article I will discuss the first half of this equation, the health of your bed, which affects all aspects of your physical and mental performance.

I have written other articles on the importance of using an organic mattress, but it is equally important to use organic sheets, pillowcases and blankets on top of your bed because your bedding makes direct contact with your body for 8 hours every night. Just as using a natural mattress protects you from the toxic effects of petrochemical foams and polyester in conventional mattresses, organic bedding protects you from harmful chemicals present in most commercial bedding.

I am sure you are thinking, My current bedding is fine, it cant harm me, especially if I would wash it and change it more often. While I cant help you wash and change your bed more often, you need to know that most commercially available sheets and pillowcases are made from a 50/50 blend of conventionally grown cotton and polyester, which is not safe. Let me explain why:

Cotton is a very useful fiber that has many good qualities: It is hypoallergenic, it wicks away moisture well for a nice dry feel, it is relatively soft, and it washes and dries well. But cotton is also the most heavily sprayed crop on earth and 25% of the worlds pesticides are used for cotton production. These pesticide residues build up in cotton as it grows, and they can be transferred directly to your bedding when it is made from non-organic cotton. Once you sleep on this contaminated cotton, pesticide residue can pass through your skin and into your body.

Non-organic cotton is bad enough, but the polyester, which comprises the other 50% of your 50/50 blend bedding, is made from petrochemicals that shouldnt be anywhere near your body. Polyester contains chemicals caused phthalates, which are used to make the fibers more flexible, and these chemicals mimic the female hormone estrogen in the human body. Constant exposure to phthalates and other plasticizers in food containers, dinnerware, polyester upholstery and other sources, has been linked to cancers and the dramatic drop in male fertility that has happened during the last 60 years. Polyester also traps water vapor, which causes night sweats, jock itch and athletes foot. It is included in sheets because it is inexpensive and makes sheets more durable and wrinkle-free. But is this worth the potential health consequences?

The solution to this problem is to use organic cotton sheets and pillowcases on your bed. As the concern has grown over the pesticides in conventionally grown cotton and the phthalates in polyester, organic cotton bedding has become more widely available. Organic grown cotton is now being produced worldwide, from Texas to India. The organic cotton is woven into sheets and pillowcases that look and feel like commercially available bedding, without the pesticides and the polyester. I also find these sheets to be much more comfortable for sleeping because they dont trap moisture like 50/50 cotton/polyester blends.

Better organic sheets are pre-shrunk using steam and are totally machine washable and dryable. They have just a few more wrinkles out of the dryer than the 50/50 blends, but that is a small price to pay for a healthy bed. We can all live with some wrinkles, but we may not be able to live with cancer.

Manufacturers of organic cotton bedding include:

-Coyuchi, located in Point Reyes Station, California, which imports organic cotton bedding and bath linens from India.

-EcoDownUnder, which is located in Sydney, Australia, which imports organic cotton bedding and bath linens to the United States.

-Native Organic, located in El Segundo, California, which makes organic cotton bedding and bath linens from Texas-grown organic cotton.

-Under the Canopy, located in Boca Raton, Florida, which makes organic cotton sheets and towels that are imported from Brazil, as well as organic cotton clothing.

Organic cotton sheets, pillowcases, mattress pads, and blankets from these manufacturers are now being sold across the United States through local retailers that specialize in natural fiber bedding. There are also a number of nationwide Internet retailers for organic cotton sheets and bedding, and one of the largest is Dax Stores.

Organic cotton sheets and bedding cost a little more than conventional bedding, but, like my mother said, you shouldnt be afraid to spare some expense your bedding because it will repay you with better health. I think your health is worth that extra expense, and so would my Mom, bless her heart.

Mark McSweiger is a freelance reporter on home and garden topics and ecological news. There are other things to consider when deciding on what is right for the nursery. Bedding for your baby must be safe as well as fitting in with your decorating theme. You only need a lightweight blanket, no comforter is necessary.

Consider a tightly fitting crib bumper a necessity and one that isnt too fluffy or full. Add bumper ties so you are ensured to have a safe snug fit in the crib. All of the bedding that you are considering should have a bottom sheet that fits snuggly. Allow for some shrinkage, after you wash it, it may not fit the mattress anymore. Cute and adorable is great, and safe is even better.

When it comes time to start shopping and buying for baby bedding you will fall in love with the cute and whimsical choices. You have spent time considering just the right theme, but you dont have to spend a fortune on decorating for the baby bedding. Your baby wont know the difference if you went to the most exclusive baby boutique, or if you decorated with thrift store items. Do you want baby animals or fairy tales, candy colors or calming tones, trendy pop culture or designer chic? What about planes, trains and automobiles? Your choices will be endless. You may want to decorate with your own creative touch. If you enjoy painting, take a stab at creating your own nursery motif on the walls. Paint a whole mural on the wall if you are inclined, or just start with a little border. If this sounds too daunting, take a plain rocker from a thrift store and paint it a white or pastel with glossy enamel. Then you can create your own little designs on the chair, or just paint the name of the baby on it. Nothing you do for your babys room will ever look wrong. You did it yourself and with love. No matter which decorating theme you choose, the nurserys bedding will complete your babys room to perfection.

Your babys bedding is changed often so you may want to select styles of sheets that will coordinate with each other. Stay with one color palette and you can mix and match patterns and prints. If you have chosen tan and brown teddy bears for the decorating theme of the nursery, you can have a neutral color on the wall and just bring in other colors of bedding to enhance the bears. You could also pick a color like pink and work in plaids and stripes or whimsical shapes. Add stars, kitties or hearts to the mix - it will all blend together. Stay away from fabrics such as chenille because the baby can pull the fabric out or fabric that is dry clean only. You wont have that much time to run to the dry cleaners every time you need to change the bed. Dont make the mistake of having cute bows in the crib, or even around it. As the baby grows, things around it such as mobiles and wall hangings that are too close to the crib will be a little too dangerous for the baby. Make common sense decisions when it comes to the nursery bedding and you and your baby will be happier for it.

Bev Marshall is a successful freelance writer offering guidance and suggestions for consumers buying mattresses, baby bedding and more. It would be better for them to be dressed in something that will keep them warm. In case you feel the need to use bedding, you should be careful for it not to be very soft. It is preferable to use a sheet and a blanket, and not a comforter or duvet.

A baby under the age of three months can be swaddled in the blanket while older babies or younger ones who cry if they are swaddled, should be made the bed at the bottom. You should put the babys feet against the footboard of the crib. The bedding should be tucked into the bottom of the bed, then you should bring the blankets and sheets up, across the chest, and tuck them in. If you do that, the baby cannot wriggle down and get his face covered by the bedding.

There are baby sleeping bags that can be bought, or you can make one of your own. They are like a sleep suit, they have cutouts for the arms, and a zipper at the front of the suit. There shouldnt be a hood. These sleeping bags are a very good solution to the problem of bedding, because they cannot cause suffocation and they keep the baby covered during the night.

Dominic is the author of this article. The first thing to keep in mind about down bedding is that not all down is created equal. Duck down and goose down are two types of downs one will run across when shopping for bedding. The first questions many may have are, "What is down," and "Isn't down the same thing as feathers?"

Down is a soft, feather-like, insulating substance that is taken from the belly of the goose or duck. Some notable characteristics of down versus feather is that down insulates while feathers shed water from the goose. Also, down doesn't have a hard shaft like feathers. If you have a down product that claims to be 100% down you can easily verify this by squeezing the bedding item. If the bedding feels like it has little sharp sticks in it then you've got a blend of down and feathers. Down products are allowed to be advertised in the USA as containing 100% down as long as they are 95% down. This is a sign of a lower quality down bedding product. If it's a comforter most likely it cost between $100 and $200. Higher quality down bedding products for queen-sized beds normally start around $350. The best down comforters available, called Eiderdown, can cost as much as $10,000.

Goose down is the right choice for you if you are looking for quality bedding. Duck down is the down of choice if you are looking for a cost effective down bedding product. There is a noticeable difference in performance between cheaper down and higher quality down. Some people have complained that cheaper down comforters cause them to become overheated. High quality goose down, on the other hand, is a more breatheable material and it also wicks away moisture. These qualities are what make goose down the more desirable material for those who appreciate fine bedding.

There are also different grades of goose down. Down quality can be defined by the region where it is grown. For example, Hungarian goose down bedding is considered to be among the finest down available. This is because Hungarian goose down is harvested with refined techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation. Canadian down bedding is also a great quality down. The goose down that is currently among the lowest grade is that down which is from China.

This article is intended to help give direction to those shopping for down bedding products. More bedding products can be found at http://www.SleepDelights.com.

Baby Bedding Information for all Your Nursery Needs

This article courtesy of http://www.mattressandbed.com

When you choose a baby bedding, choose the one which can guarantee optimum baby bedding safety and coziness to your baby. The best fabric for the baby would be 100 percent cotton. Cribs are of many different types, but they all need to be strong and durable. You could choose a standard crib, or go for a more expensive one such as a convertible or portable crib which would be ideal for traveling. It is best to always choose a crib from a reputable company.

Click here for KidsLine baby bedding and KidsLine crib bedding accessories

KidsLine Baby Infant Crib Bedding

Free Standard Shipping on All Orders Over $99

Use Coupon Code: babyship

Fast 2 Week Delivery on KidsLine Baby Bedding

Dreamtime Baby Closeout Specials - Click Here for Great Deals on 1000's of Baby Items
Dreamtime Baby Closeout Specials, Great Deals on 1000's of Baby Items. A perfect bassinet will have a soft cuddly mattress, a small little pillow and a blanket. A bassinet should be made of soft material with preferably the color blending with the babys room.

Cradle bedding:

Cradles have a lovely rocking motion which makes sure that the baby gets a sound sleep. Light colored cradles are preferred by parents because they look nice and you can notice when they get wet.

Baby blankets:

Baby blankets should be of soft material and must be non toxic.

About the Author

Randy is owner of http://www.planning-a-baby-shower.com where you will find further tips on baby showers and baby shower games.

Unique Baby Bedding - Because Every Baby is Special

This article courtesy of http://www.mattressandbed.com

All parents want something absolutely unique for their baby. The range of prices, features, and stores can make your head spin. It doesnt have to be this difficult. Bearing a few things in mind while you try and find that perfect place to sleep can ease that big purchase tension.

1. Dont limit your mattress search to innerspring mattresses.
Innersprings mattresses have long been the standard and for that reason many people are inclined to shop accordingly. Recently that trend has been changing as more and more people are realizing the benefits of getting-edge sleep systems. Latex and memory foam beds are superior to innersprings in comfort, support, and price.

2. Explore what will best suit your needs.
It is easy to be swept up in advertising and form opinions about products without ever having tried them or done any further research. This is one of the biggest mistakes to be made when shopping for a mattress. Being dead set on having a memory foam bed can blind you to the possibility that latex, with its antimicrobial properties and breathability may be a better mattress for you. You may find that memory foam is what you needed, but it is important to keep your mind open.

3. Dont be sidetracked by trends or gimmicks.
Though it may seem like fun to change the firmness of your bed every night through products like air beds, it is not worth losing the support your body needs. Find a mattress that is customizable but continues to offer support. For example, it is easy to customize latex mattresses to any firmness level without losing support, even for couples.

4. Know the difference between firmness and support.
It is a common misconception that firmer is better. This theory has been debunked. As it turns out the human body does in fact have curves. The best mattress for you will relieve pressure points while supporting your body.

5. Dont buy more than you need.
Many mattress sellers will try and sell you a whole new mattress set even if you already have a perfectly good box spring. If your box spring isnt broken dont replace it. In the case of a platform bed, which provides more under bed storage, a box spring is unnecessary.

6. Know what the exchange policy is.
Being stuck on an uncomfortable mattress that cost you a fortune is a miserable experience. Many retailers have exchange policies extending up to a month to ensure that you know the mattress you buy is the mattress you want. Know what the stores policy is before thinking about buying.

7. Take into account the importance of a good nights sleep.
A lot of people undervalue the time they spend in bed. A cheap innerspring mattress will not relieve pressure points near as well as memory foam or latex, which means more tossing and turning, and less deep restful sleep.

8. Dont be too attached to brand names.
Name brand products are often very high quality. However, many smaller scale manufacturers and retailers generate comparable and often superior products at a fraction of the price.

9. Take into consideration the longevity of the mattress.
Mattress lifespan is important to consider because it affects the cost of the mattress relative to time. A good latex mattress will remain a premium sleeping surface for twice as long as any innerspring mattress. Be sure to ask about warranties on any mattress you are considering.

10. Be sure to know the features and benefits.
Knowing the features and benefits is the only way to decide which mattress is going to work best for you. To the uninformed eye a cover is a cover. To someone in the know, a cover is an amazing feature. Some covers are antimicrobial to reduce the number of allergens in the sleeping area. Some breathe better than others allowing excess moisture to be rapidly dissipated. Still others stretch to form to your body. Remember that there are important considerations when choosing a mattress cover.

With these tips in hand, it's easier to focus on the ultimate goal of achieving a comfortable, restful sleep. Inquire into new technologies and investigate as many different options as possible using the internet before you walk into a store. Use these points to form your own list of preferences and questions and take your business to someone who listens to your questions and answers them honestly. The most powerful ally for any consumer, after all, is preparation!

Ben Hermsen, a latex mattress and foam cushion engineer, is a manager for FoamSource.com where he champions the benefits of latex mattresses, toppers and pillows for both individual health and also the preservation of our natural environment. Sleep is important to all of us, even the honeymooners. A good night sleep is critical for our performance the next day and for our health and well being in general. If the couple is not used to sleeping together, there will be just the issues of getting used to sleeping with someone. You dont need the extra strain and complications of a mattress that is uncomfortable for one or both parties. My comfort in bed may not be yours. I like a soft mattress even though I have a bad back. My husband likes something that is more firm. There are mattresses on the market that boast the capability of adjusting the firmness to each persons preference. That sounds great, but these mattresses arent inexpensive. In fact, most mattresses and box spring sets will set you back a few bills. In order for your chances of a better night sleep to be greater, I strongly advise for the new couple to pick out the mattress together instead of one person bringing a mattress into the marriage. That also feels better doesnt it? I dont like the idea of a used mattress coming into a marriage. This should be new just as the marriage is new. If the couple shops together for the new mattress set, there is a better chance they will find one that fits both their needs. Do the rest test in the store as most retailers wont let you take one home and then return it; they frown on that from a hygienic aspect.

The Better Sleep Council recommends six things you should consider before buying the mattress:

Support is critical as you should have a mattress that keeps your spine in a good standing posture.

Make sure the comfort level is such where you feel you can be close to each other without bothering one another.

You expect your mattress to last a long time as it is not an inexpensive purchase. Keep turning it, and vacuum it off occasionally. If you are concerned about dust mites, you may even want to encase it in plastic. Ask yourself in a few years if it is still supportive and comfortable to you. If not, you might want to opt for a new set.

Buy the right size. If you need space as we all do, opt for at least a queen size bed. King-size mattresses are unwieldy and will take up more space in a master bedroom, but you might require more room, especially if you and your mate are tall or heavy set.

Do buy a matching sleep set. These are made for each other and you wont get the wear from the mattress you desire if you dont match it up to the box spring.

Buy the best that you can afford. Now is not the time to skimp on a purchase because a cheap mattress will not be comfortable at all. It wont take you long in the rest test to tell the comfortable mattresses from the ones that feel like cardboard.

Mattresses and marriage are made to stay together. We spend so much of our life in bed that we need to have the most comfortable, supportive mattress on the market that we can afford. Isnt this like the partner you have chosen? They are supportive and comfortable to be with so mattresses and marriage can truly be a match made in heaven.

Bev Marshall is a successful freelance writer offering guidance and suggestions for consumers buying mattresses, comforters, bedding, duvet covers and more. I dont agree. A new SUV, a sports car or any new car is a lot cooler then buying a large heavy mite collector.

One similarity was a mattress salesman that I had a while back. He reminded me of a used car salesman. There are way too many choices in the first place, to have a guy manipulate me into buying a mattress that I dont need.

He had me kicking the tire on a lower price mattress and then sitting in a Cadillac. Sure I can tell the difference of a $200.00 mattress and a $1200.00 one. But isnt there a happy medium.

The best advice would be to do as much online research as you can. Find beds that advertise for what you are looking for. The size, pillow type and even firmness are just a few to name. Find a forum that has real life experiences. Be an informed buyer.

When you get to the store, you tell the salesmen what bran and styles you are looking for. Try them out. Ultimately its how you feel on the bed that matters.

This is the best way to find the best deal. If you go to a mattress store uniformed and youre trying to shop by price, you might go home with a bed that turns into a lumpy rock in no time.

So remember if you dont want a used car salesman trying to sell you model that was owned by a little old lady from Pasadena, become an educated consumer. Use the internet, find what you want and get an idea what things are priced.

Richard Amburn is the contributing writer for http://www.popularmattressfactory.com a resource on the subject of mattresses. "The bedroom? " you say. Yes, my dear, the bedroom, where organic mattresses and organic bedding are becoming an important new trend in the quest for a healthier lifestyle.

The organic bedroom trend is motivated by some very recent disturbing discoveries about the petroleum-based foam mattresses most of us sleep on every night. Studies of household dust have confirmed that your mattress is likely one of the most significant sources of cancer-causing chemicals in your home. The average mattress consists of petroleum-based foam covered in petroleum-based polyester fabric. During its 10-year average lifetime, a foam mattress loses up to half its weight, and the lost weight goes on your bedroom floor in the form of toxic dust and in the air in the form of formaldehyde gas which is a by-product of the foam breakdown. Those dust bunnies under your bed could be a real threat to your health, unless you use an organic mattress which does not break down into these toxic by-products.

The foam mattress story gets even more scary. The average petroleum-based foam queen-sized mattress is soaked in about a pound of fire retardant chemicals called PDBEs, which have already been banned in Europe, but not in North America. PDBEs are chemicals which are similar to the banned PCBs, and they build up in the body like DDT and PCBs. The PDBEs are used because they are the simplest and cheapest way to conform to United States mattress fire resistance codes. They are also promoted by the chemical industry, which recently sponsored tightening of the mattress fire resistance codes, which will cause even greater quantities of PDBEs to be used in the manufacture of mattresses beginning in 2006. While these new codes will save an estimated 27 lives a year from fires, these new regulations play Russian roulette with the future health of the 285 million Americans that sleep on these petroleum-based foam mattresses. Those calling for a ban on PDBEs say the greater danger is not the lives lost in fires, but the potentially millions of cases of cancer caused by exposure to these chemicals over the coming decades.

The solution to this problem is to remove petroleum-based bedding from your home, and this has spawned the burgeoning organic bedroom movement. The cornerstone of this trend is the organic mattress, which is the same kind of mattresses our ancestors used before the rise of the petrochemical industry after World War II. It is also interesting to note that current cancer rates are more than 5 times higher than before World War II, when everybody was sleeping on organic mattresses by definition, because there was no petrochemical industry during those times.

Examples of an organic mattress include:

1. Organic cotton and wool batting innerspring mattresses with an organic cotton fabric cover. Wool is naturally fire retardant and meets all US fire codes.

2. A Natural latex mattress, whose foam is made from the latex sap of the rubber tree and which require no fire retardants because natural rubber does not burn well.

3. Luxury organic mattresses which use combination of all three materials, organic cotton, wool, and latex, to produce maximum comfort mattresses that rival any non-organic mattresses.

4. All organic cotton mattresses. Although cotton does not burn well, it requires a doctors prescription because cotton does not meet US fire resistance codes.

Organic mattresses also have comfort advantages over traditional petroleum-based foam mattresses. They wick away moisture from the body much more thoroughly than clammy polyester and man-made foam, stopping night sweating and cutting down on problems like athletes foot and jock itch. Wool also regulates body temperature very well, which is important for a restful sleep. Natural latex foam and wool are resistant to dust mites, which cause allergies in many people, and organic cotton and latex foam are both hypoallergenic materials. Organic mattresses are also considered a must for people with chemical sensitivities.

Major North American manufacturers of organic mattresses include Vivetique/Crown City Mattress, located in South El Monte, California, Royal Pedic, headquartered in Beverly Hills, California, and Obasan, located in Ottawa, Canada. Retailers of organic mattresses include a variety of local mattress stores who carry products from these manufacturers, and nationwide web retailers, like Dax Stores, which often have the best prices for these mattresses.

Mark Sweiger is a freelance reporter on home and garden topics and ecological news, and he can be reached via email at msweiger@NOSPAMearthlink.net. When you arise in the morning does your body ache? Body aches after resting the night on an innerspring mattress is a strong indication that it may be time to start looking for a new mattress. But the signs of a mattress loosing its shape and comfort can be detected sooner.

These simple tests can help you discover if your mattress is still giving you the comfort you need:

Lie on your back and try to slide your hand under the small of your back. If it is very easy and your shoulders and hips are uncomfortable, you may want to consider a new mattress.
Try to roll over. If it is a lot of effort your mattress may be too soft and a new mattress may be a solution for a more comfortable night's sleep, and well rested awakening in the morning.

Another sign of a mattress losing its comfort is when it takes longer to feel rested as you start to sleep later and later. Staying a couple of hours longer in bed can extend the result a poorly performing mattress that wouldn't otherwise be noticed with a shorter or normal sleep period.

Once you have decided that your mattress is no longer giving you the comfort that it should give, the search for a new mattress commences. The quality of a mattress is recognizable by the following:

Quality Mattress Indicators

Durability
Quality materials which are well put together are a sign of durability, but more importantly is the warrantees given which are a sign of how long the factory believes the life expectancy of the mattress is. Depending on the price level of the mattress, warrantees should be for 5 years for promotional priced queen beds ($199 to $599), 10 years for middle of the road quality ($699 to $999), 15 years for premium quality ($1,199 to $2,999) and 20 years for true luxury beds ($3,199 to $12,999).

Softness and Firmness
The required softness or firmness of a mattress is a personal preference and most people know exactly what they want. They either like a softer or harder mattress. Often weight is a consideration when choosing the firmness of a mattress. Large or very heavy adults generally prefer firmer mattresses that provide them with more support. When buying a mattress for a child, remember back problems start as the spinal cord develops, saving money now may cost you in the long run. Children generally like a softer mattress and promotionally priced twin sets have less support and more pressure points than premium priced products.

Warrantee
As mentioned before, the warrantee should be of considerable time, at least 5 years and up-to 20 years for true luxury beds. The duration of the warrantee is just one factor. Most warranties are limited warranties and have body impressions restrictions before the manufacturer will service the product. Very few manufacturers have 100% no questions asked warranties so its very important to read the warranty before you purchase, most manufacturers have web sites with the warranty posted, do not take some ones word for it in a retail store, get it in writing and know your rights, buyer beware. Also look for things like no shipping fees in case of a problem, no repair costs, replacement mattresses for free, etc.

Space
Last but not least, space! Look for the largest mattress your room can hold and you can afford. When sleeping together with your partner, space is not only going to make your nights more comfortable, but may also keep your relationship at a healthy level. In case your buying a mattress for your child, keep in mind that your child will outgrow a short mattress. A 74 inch mattress length may be great now, but ten years from now their feet may be floating in the air.

Once you have purchased your mattress, maintenance is important to make your mattress last as long as specified by the manufacturers guarantee. The following tips are helpful to make your mattress last longer:

Can-Flip Innerspring mattresses should be turned over and rotated monthly.
No-Flip Innerspring mattress should be rotated bi-monthly.
All foam mattresses should be rotated monthly.
Never wet an innerspring or all foam mattresses. Use a vacuum cleaner for regular cleaning.
The handles on a mattress are there for positioning and should not be used to lift or carry the mattress.
Obviously, do not try to fold or bend an innerspring mattress, luxury foam mattresses are bendable.
Sitting on the edge of innerspring or all foam mattresses is not good for its durability. Mattresses are designed to carry the weight of a person lying down and not to support somebody sitting on the edge for long periods of time.
Make sure the mattress is placed on a matching foundation and 5-leg bed frame for queen sizes or larger. All foam mattresses are heaver than traditional innerspring, so foundations are very important, the wrong type will cost you your warranty. A mattress is only as good as its foundation no mater what you spend.

A mattress is the place where you spend about 30% of your lifetime during those moments that comfort is of your highest priority. Knowing the important factors is essential. Children that get a better nights sleep do better in school and are easier to manage. Adults health is mostly determined by the quality of rest they receive especially in high stress work places. Buying online is an excellent way to purchase a new mattress as long as the company offers 100% no non-sense comfort guarantees with no re-stocking and shipping charges.

About the Author

About the author: Thomas Jay Wacker is the General Manager and V.P. of www.simplepedic.com. Comforters are the most visible of all the bedding pieces, so when you change the comforter you make a large change in the decor of the bedroom itself. But comforters are also very functional as they make for a very warm, and soft bed to sleep in too. But getting the right comforter for your bed takes some thought and preparation, and this article will help you make the right decision when you buy.The first factor in choosing the right comforter is to make sure that it actually fits your bed. This may sound like a simple thing, but not all mattresses are the same size because of their design. If you have a very standard mattress it will most likely fit into one of the conventional categories like "Full", Queen", or "King".But many mattresses these days are not standard sizes because mattress makers have gone to adding more features like pillow tops on one side or sometimes both sides of the mattress. This means that the mattress is now much thicker than it would normally be. And that will also affect the size of any bedding that you are now able to put on that bed. That's why it's always a good idea to measure your bed and mattress to make sure that you know what size comforter to get beforehand and won't have to be faced with the prospect of having to return the bedding that you love when you find that it just doesn't look right on your bed. When considering a comforter look at the TPI or threads per inch too. This figure will often give you a good idea of the quality level that has been put into that comforter. Generally speaking thread counts above 250 produce a soft and comfortable feel and fabric that will last a long time. Try to avoid thread counts below 200.It's also not a bad idea to look for a comforter that has patterns on both sides. That way you can change the look of the bed from time to time and not just have the same pattern all the time.If you are in the market for a down comforter, the most expensive kinds will have pure white down in them, but actually a mixture of down and feathers will do the job nicely and is not as expensive. Just avoid so-called down comforters that have a really low ratio of down to feathers. The higher the down ratio in the comforter the more important that the cover be what is called "down proof" because down is so small and can actually work its way through a normal cover. Usually this designation is listed on the comforter package. Finally, be sure that a down comforter is stitched so that the insulation material cannot move about very freely or shift. If the stitching is not in place the down can shift so that some parts of the comforter do not even offer much insulation at all. This is widely known, and most down comforters will have necessary stitching in place on the quilt, but just make sure before you buy.Buying a good quality comforter is an investment in practicality and appearance at the same time. Use these guidelines for choosing your new comforter and you should be happy with it for years to come.
About the Author
Duane Jones - All About Bed And Bath provides free information, resources and tips on finding bedding, comforters, bathroom fixtures, tubs, and more for your home at the very best price.

Young Entrepreneurs Provide Solution to Common Student Problem: Memory Foam

SYRACUSE, NY: Whether it is staying up all night cramming for finals or hanging out with friends, students are constantly altering their sleep patterns making it very difficult to maintain a regular sleep cycle. Also, students often sleep on uncomfortable dorm mattresses, poor-quality foam egg-crates, typical coil mattresses or futons. Students need to maximize their sleep time to help give themselves an extra edge for the long days, and nights they spend in class and during studies. Memory foam and its unique properties give students a level of sleep they have not previously experienced. In the late 1960's NASA developed a material found to have unique properties that prove to be very useful in reducing pressure points while sleeping. Memory foam conforms to a person's unique body shape and temperature to reduce the level of stress and strain on the body during sleep. Many users of memory foam report less tossing and turning during sleep, as well as a deeper, more restful sleep than on any other sleep surface. The Memory Foam Factory? was created by Syracuse University student Brian Bushell with development assistance from student Steven Darling. After several years of sleeping on uncomfortable mattresses in their dorms and apartments the Memory Foam Factory? was born. It has partnered with a leading foam manufacturer who has been serving the industry for over 40 years. As a result of this relationship they are able to provide students and discriminating buyers the highest quality memory foam mattress toppers and contour pillows at factory direct prices. Since the Memory Foam Factory? was born, students from all over the country have finally been able to get the restful sleep they need, at prices they can afford. Their body is oval and covered with fine striations. Their eight tiny legs have small sticky pads which enable them to burrow deep into carpet fibers and furniture, easily resisting the pull of even the most powerful vacuum cleaners. You definitely would not want to turn over in your bed and find yourself face to face with one of these strange looking creatures. Unfortunately, that is where their populations are often the highest. The average bed can easily have over 10,000 dust mites living in it. Dust mites do not bite, sting or transmit diseases, so they pose no harm except to people who are allergic to a protein they produce. Their numbers have increased dramatically in the past 20 to 30 years, especially during the winter months, partly due to tighter homes where ventilation is limited and temperatures tend to be warmer. Egg-laying female mites can increase the population by 25 to 30 every three weeks. They go through five stages in their life cycle; from egg, the larvae stage, then two nymphal stages, and finally the adult. The adult may also molt once. This cycle from egg to the adult takes about one month. Adult mites can live up to two months, depending on the humidity levels and temperatures of their environment. They do not drink water but they absorb moisture from the air and their environment. They just love higher relative humidities of 70-80% and temperatures of 75-80 degrees F in which their development and food consumption increases. Dust Mites Produce a Powerful AllergenIt is the protein DER p1 in the faecal products and disintegrating body parts of these minute dust mites that has a mighty adverse effect on those who are allergic to it. Dust mites produce about 20 pellets per day, each measuring about 10 to 24 microns in size. To put that in perspective, the diameter of the human hair measures 80-100 microns. A gram of dust can hold 250,000 of these minute droppings. They are so tiny and light that they float easily into the air when disturbed by our daily activities. Inhaling these minute particles causes allergic reactions in those who are sensitive to this protein. Allergens from the dust mite which cause asthmatic symptoms was first suggested in 1921 but analysis of dust did not happen until 1964 when a group led by Voohorst suggested that a mite may be responsible for the dust allergen. It was soon established that the dust mite droppings contain an allergen so they became a focus over the years for their involvement with respiratory ailments. The DER p1 produced by the dust mite is though to be the most important allergen associated with asthma. About 10% of the population are allergic to dust mite extracts.Identifying the Sensitivity to Dust Mite ProteinHouse dust contains many types of debris, including fabric fibers, human skin scales, human and animal dander, bacteria, cockroach parts, mold spores, food particles and other organic and synthetic materials. About 90% of the people who are allergic to house dust extracts are allergic to dust mite extracts. Symptoms which may come from sensitivities to the dust mite protein include sneezing, congestion, itchy, watery eyes and persistently stuffy nose and ears. Symptoms point more specifically to dust mites when you experience repeated sneezing shortly after awakening, symptoms get worse when beds are made or when using your vacuum cleaner, and improve when you are outside. Diagnosis, using scratch tests, etc., by an Allergist is recommended to determine which allergens cause reactions. These doctors who specialize in treating allergies can recommend a course of action specifically designed to reduce or eliminate your allergic reactions. This may include steps for reducing exposure to troublesome allergens, medical therapy and desensitization injections (Systemic Immunotherapy - SIT). The latter may be recommended if avoidance and medical therapy fail to sufficiently reduce the allergic reaction. It involves injections of a dust mite extract starting weekly, followed by injections every six weeks for three to five years.Importance of Reducing Exposure to the Dust Mite AllergenIf your family is not sensitive to the dust mite protein DER p1, managing them may not be a high priority. For those who suffer from it, management by reducing exposure to the allergen DER p1 is quite important. Two important aspects which need to be addressed are the removal of environments which are conducive to dust and dust mites and the reduction of airborne dust mite droppings and disintegrating body parts. Inhaling these minute particles causes allergic reactions in those who are sensitive to this protein. The exposure level at which you experience allergic reactions is determined by the sum of exposure to all allergens you're sensitive to. Those who are sensitive to multiple allergens find that reduction of exposure to any of the allergens will help in their tolerance of all the allergens. It is important to realize that you do not need to completely eliminate exposure to allergens. Simply keeping your total exposure of all allergens below the threshold at which you experience reactions is all that is necessary.Reducing Exposure to Allergens in Your BedDue to the amount of time we spend sleeping the mattress should be covered with a protector, our bedrooms are the areas which deserve the most attention. Simply turning over in bed or breathing near your pillow can cause you to inhale minute dust mite droppings. Using hypo-allergenic fiberfill pillows is recommended over feather, kapok or foam since they are more easily washed. Encasing your pillows, mattress and box spring with plastic or specially coated or finely woven (pore size < 10 microns) vapor- permeable fabrics will deprive the dust mites of food and prevent many of the dust mite droppings from reaching you. The fabrics are more comfortable since they allow perspiration vapor to be more naturally carried away from your skin. Thorough vacuuming the mattresses, especially the seams and bed frame on a regular basis is also helpful. Wash your sheets and mattress pads in soapy water at 130 degrees F every one or two weeks to kill all mites. Bedding and curtains which can withstand frequent washing should be selected. Blankets can be dry cleaned or washed frequently. Using an electric blanket for eight hours every day can reduce dust mites in beds significantly. Heating blankets in a cloths dryer for several hours also kills mites. By doing this, dry cleaning or washing of blankets can be reduced to once a year.Reducing Exposure to Allergens in All Your RoomsWall to wall carpet and upholstered surfaces can be reduced or replaced with hard surfaces that are easier to clean. Dust mites can not survive long on hard surfaces due to dehydration. They absorb water through contact with their environment. Dusting with a ULPA or HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner or specially treated cloths is recommended over damp mopping. The latter may increase the humidity in the house. Dust mites can't live at humidities below 50%. Using air conditioners and dehumidifiers during the summer to keep the humidity between 40% and 50% is often recommended. During winter, if using a humidifier, be careful to keep the humidity in this same range. A good humidity gauge can help monitor this. Carpets that get damp on a regular basis should be replaced with hard surfaces. Having carpets professional cleaned with superheated steam will effectively killing dust mites in them. Carpets can be treated with sprays containing 3% tannic acid to make dust mite droppings non- allergic. Benzyl benzoate powder which actually kills dust mites is also available. Reduction of contact with dust mite droppings is often preferred since these contain toxic chemicals which some people are sensitive to.Reducing Exposure to Allergens with Air FiltersWearing a well fitting dust mask while vacuuming and making beds can reduce the dust mite allergens you inhale. Some allergists even recommend airing out a room really well after vacuuming to reduce the airborne particles which are stirred up by many vacuum cleaners. Furnace mounted and portable air cleaners are available but their cost may be greater than the benefits achieved by them. They definitely are not a substitute for the preventative measures described above. The best are media type filters like those which meet the stringent HEPA specification. Electrostatic filters are not recommended unless cleaned regularly in which case they may be as effective. Special filters can be placed on the furnace air vents leading to your rooms to help trap allergens before they can enter the room. Air cleaners which generate ozone should be avoided since they have little effect on allergens in the air and may worsen allergy symptoms since the ozone may irritate the respiratory system.Importance of an ULPA or HEPA Filtered Vacuum CleanerThe vacuum cleaner is one of the most important tools for managing dust mites and their minute droppings. Thorough cleaning of carpets, mattresses, upholstered furniture, curtains and drapery regularly will reduce the dust mite allergens in your home. It is better to clean thoroughly once a week instead of lightly every day. In order to prevent these minute particles containing allergens from being recirculated into the air you breathe, a vacuum cleaner's filtration system must be very efficient at trapping particles at least that small. The agitation and air flow created by your vacuum cleaner to clean you surfaces causes a huge number of minute dust mite dropping to be drawn into it. They can easily pass through most vacuum cleaner bags and filters and be exhausted back into the air you breathe, making it much dirtier than before. The vacuum cleaner industry is taking advantage of the development of advanced filtration media to provide much higher quality exhausted air than was possible just a few years ago. The current cutting edge in vacuum cleaner technology is in the area of improving the filtration efficiencies of vacuum cleaners. Special high filtration paper bags are available from many manufacturers which filter much better than conventional ones. To learn more about these high filtration paper bags, see our article on the efficiency of vacuum cleaner paper bags To reduce the effects on allergies and asthma caused by the allergens in dust mite droppings, look for a vacuum cleaner with an ULPA or HEPA filter. It also is very important to have a completely sealed system so all air flow must pass through the ULPA or HEPA filter to be cleaned by it. By combining high filtration paper bags, a Certified HEPA filter and completely sealed systems, vacuum cleaners can achieve extremely high filtration efficiencies of 99.97% at 0.3 micron size particles. ULPA filters have an even higher efficiency of 99.999% at 0.12 micron size particles. For more information about HEPA and ULPA filtration.SummaryDust mites are microscopic creatures which live at peace with all of us, constantly going about their routine of cleaning up our environment. Unfortunately, for about 10% of the population, the protein DER p1 in their minute droppings causes allergic reactions which affect their respiratory systems causing allergic reactions and triggering asthmatic attacks. A visit to an doctor specializing in allergies (allergist) can confirm which allergens you are sensitive to. They are able to prescribe a course of action which may include steps to reduce the allergen exposure, medication therapy and possibly desensitization injections. Key steps to reduce exposure to dust mite allergens include encasing mattresses and pillows, washing bedding and curtains regularly, controlling humidity in you home and cleaning thoroughly with a powerful high filtration vacuum cleaner. In extreme cases, carpets and upholstered surfaces should be replaced with hard surfaces which are easier to clean and which inhibit dust mite growth. The goal is to reduce allergen exposure to below the level at which allergic reactions occur, not necessarily the elimination of all exposure to the dust mite allergen.

Top Ten Reasons to Buy a Natural Latex Mattress

1. Latex mattresses are a natural, biodegradable renewable resource:
Beginning on plantations in Malaysia and Indonesia, latex is sap milked from rubber trees in a manner not unlike collecting maple syrup. Local workers harvest the liquid latex and prepare it to be processed. The liquid latex is then shipped in drums to locations in Europe and the United States where it is manufactured into mattress cores and toppers, as well as pillows. Unlike Talalay processed latex foams, natural latex has no added petroleum or other chemical additives making it a truly all natural material. Being a 100% renewable resource, as well as biodegradable, natural latex does not have the taxing effect on the environment as other conventional bedding material.
2. In bedding, natural latex provides support where it is needed most by contouring to the body’s natural nuances:
It relieves pressure points, particularly at the shoulders and hips, and it allows for better circulation with less tossing and turning. The result is a deeper, more restful slumber.
3. Natural latex is remarkably conducive to situations that require custom mattresses:
Available in a wide range of firmness levels, it is simple to build a mattress that caters to an individual’s needs: his and her sided beds, toppers, and more. Because of the wide variety of firmness variations available, natural latex can help ensure you feel as comfortable as possible when it matters most. Integrating an open cell structure with a pin core design allows for maximum breathability essential for removing excess heat and moisture that can prevent a good night’s sleep.
4. For those who struggle with allergies natural latex provides a safe haven as it is naturally hypoallergenic, and anti-microbial:
This means that molds, mildew, and dust mites that may help trigger allergies will not be waiting for you in bed, where they can be the most frustrating.
5. A naturally resilient and durable material, natural latex will supply consistent performance for 20 years or more.
6. The Advantages of Latex mattresses have been tried, tested and proven in Europe for decades:
Unlike the plethora of new age sleep systems available today, latex mattresses have been tried and tested in Europe for over twenty years. Their ability to withstand the test of time as well as provide an all-natural sleep surface that conforms to the contours of the body is finally beginning to catch hold in the United States.
7. Other new age sleep systems cannot offer the same qualities as natural latex:
Viscoelastic (memory) foam offers good support and relieves pressure points, but comes up short in other areas. It is a chemical product that is not biodegradable and as such it is not environmentally friendly. It doesn’t breathe like natural latex, which translates to a more stuffy and sticky sleeping environment. Memory foam easily retains moisture and is an environment prone to dust mites and molds, leaving allergy sufferers sniffing and congested during what should be the most restful time of the day. Being far less resilient than natural latex, viscoelastic foam has a lifespan of only about 10 years, meaning it will need to be replaced twice as often:
8. Air beds, such as sleep number beds, offer much less support and pressure point relief than natural latex:
They are non-breathable bladders full of air so they offer no way to keep moisture and heat from building up during the night. The only advantage of this type of mattress is its adjustability, which is only an advantage to those who enjoy varying firmnesses.
9. Innerspring mattresses seem a thing of the past when compared to natural latex - they don’t provide nearly the amount of support and customization opportunities:
Frequent tossing and turning is the result of pressure points caused by a rigid spring system. The batting material in the cover cultivates any amount of dust mites, molds, and fungi giving them free range to reek havoc on allergies. Motion is easily transferred through the mattress decreasing the quality of sleep for couples. It is clear why the standard is changing.
10. The independent cell construction of natural latex is not prone to transfer movement allowing two people to comfortably share the same bed without disrupting each other with every motion.
Natural latex provides excellent support and effectively relieves pressure points. Couples can sleep soundly together without disruption. It is a natural product and is environmentally sound. Designed to be breathable it is effective in keeping heat and moisture build up to a minimum for more comfortable sleep. Finally, it is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial to keep allergy sufferers well rested. It is easy to see why natural latex is far and away the best natural sleeping surface available.
About The Author
Ben Hermsen, a latex mattress enginner, is a manager for http://www.foamsource.com where he champions the benefits of latex mattresses, toppers and pillows for both individual health and also the preservation of our natural environment.

Mattresses and Marriage - A match Made in Heaven

Mattresses and marriage go hand in hand. Sleep is important to all of us, even the honeymooners. A good night sleep is critical for our performance the next day and for our health and well being in general. If the couple is not used to sleeping together, there will be just the issues of getting used to sleeping with someone. You don’t need the extra strain and complications of a mattress that is uncomfortable for one or both parties. My comfort in bed may not be yours. I like a soft mattress even though I have a bad back. My husband likes something that is more firm. There are mattresses on the market that boast the capability of adjusting the firmness to each person’s preference. That sounds great, but these mattresses aren’t inexpensive. In fact, most mattresses and box spring sets will set you back a few bills. In order for your chances of a better night sleep to be greater, I strongly advise for the new couple to pick out the mattress together instead of one person bringing a mattress into the marriage. That also feels better doesn’t it? I don’t like the idea of a “used” mattress coming into a marriage. This should be new just as the marriage is new. If the couple shops together for the new mattress set, there is a better chance they will find one that fits both their needs. Do the rest test in the store as most retailers won’t let you take one home and then return it; they frown on that from a hygienic aspect.
The Better Sleep Council recommends six things you should consider before buying the mattress:
• Support is critical as you should have a mattress that keeps your spine in a good standing posture.
• Make sure the comfort level is such where you feel you can be close to each other without bothering one another.
• You expect your mattress to last a long time as it is not an inexpensive purchase. Keep turning it, and vacuum it off occasionally. If you are concerned about dust mites, you may even want to encase it in plastic. Ask yourself in a few years if it is still supportive and comfortable to you. If not, you might want to opt for a new set.
• Buy the right size. If you need space as we all do, opt for at least a queen size bed. King-size mattresses are unwieldy and will take up more space in a master bedroom, but you might require more room, especially if you and your mate are tall or heavy set.
• Do buy a matching sleep set. These are made for each other and you won’t get the wear from the mattress you desire if you don’t match it up to the box spring.
• Buy the best that you can afford. Now is not the time to skimp on a purchase because a cheap mattress will not be comfortable at all. Sleeping is a process that takes up roughly about about a third of the average person's life. So it makes sense that you would want to make your bed comfortable and a pleasure to be in. It also is a nice bonus if the bedding you choose enhances the overall decor of your home and is pleasing to the eye.Bed sheets are an important part of the overall bedding items used on a bed, and here are a few guidelines for choosing high quality bed sheets that you will be happy with:Size is a very important factor in choosing bed sheets. It used to be that most mattresses were pretty standard sizes and so you could buy sheets in genralized categories like "Full", "Queen", and "King", and be reasonably sure that they would fit right out of the box. But lately, mattress manufacturers have gone to adding more features to their mattresses to make them appeal to a wider range of customers, like adding pillow tops on one side or even both sides of the mattress. This added material makes the mattress much wider and therefore any bed sheets that are used on that bed will need to be bigger as well in order to fit properly. That's why it's a good idea to actually measure your bed in advance and make sure that the sheets will fit your particular mattress before buying them. You may have to buy one category larger or more to fit your bed.Thread count is another important consideration when buying bed sheets. Thread count per inch, or TPI, states how many threads are in a square inch of the bed sheet material. Generally speaking, anything over 250 makes for a soft, comfortable feel, and also tends to last longer and hold up under more use. Try to avoid bed sheets that have very low thread counts under 200.The kind of material used for bed sheets can vary considerably, from cotton to exotic silks. Cotton seems to be the most popular, but you may also want to experiment with flannels, and cotton mixed fabrics. Satins and silks are considered very high end and tend to be expensive, but some people really enjoy them as bed sheets, and wouldn't use anything else. After practical considerations such as these are made, you just have to decide what colors and designs that you want on your bed and we recommend that you try to stay within the overall theme of your bedroom's decor. Selecting bed sheets is is simple if you follow these basic guidelines, and they will reward you with years of good service.
About the Author
Duane Jones - All About Bed And Bath provides free information, resources and tips on finding bedding, comforters, bathroom fixtures, tubs, and more for your home at the very best price.

A Good Nights Sleep - Choosing the Right Mattress

A good mattress should provide you with optimal support and comfort to help ensure you are ready to start the new day. This should be done every few weeks after purchase, and then every few months after that.
